Night of Orion
haiku from January 2003
by Gary Warner

the stars in winter
removing my glove to
tweak the focus
in my red light
Alnilam and Alnitak
messed up again

Orion setting
first Rigel, then Saiph
beneath the trees

Jupiter with
its belt of diamonds
straight overhead
pulling away
from the telescope
to take it all in

moonrise
and Venus with it
just before dawn
