haiku from February 2003
by Gary Warner

yesterday's paper
frozen in a puddle
Groundhog's Day
distant thunder
the stars disappear
behind a dark veil
arriving home
the plumber's truck
in my driveway
tomato soup
shared from a thermos
chess in the park
in my headlights
the life of a deer
flashes before me
aquarium light
angelfish shadows
on the carpet
the flicker
of a single candle
her sleeping face
picking strawberries
my children sing
about cotton
