The Shiki Monthly Kukai

Haiku Comments -- First Annual Kigo

Seventh Place -- 9 Points

storm clouds
a sunflower faces
the cracked earth

On the surface, this one is fairly straight forward. A sunflower usually faces the sun. Perhaps with the rain this will mean an end to the drought.

I envision the sunflower facing its own grave. A sense of change and impermanence. It also occurred to me that there is a relation between the cracked earth and cracked sunflower seeds.
