lalique hummingbird-- a thousand pieces of scattered sun
Kathy Lippard Cobb feb2003 (1,3,1) = 10
What I liked about this one was the fact that it provided a beautiful image combined with an awesome metaphore. This one was very well written. A thousand pieces of scattered sun how beautiful is that.

My preference for # 39 is because the theme, the hummingbird, is beautifully connected with an item of Western art - or handicraft - the coloured glasses created by Lalique so there is an allusion from bird to glass, or vice versa. I think this is rather rare in Western haiku and all the more admirable because of that. As I have never seen a humming-bird live, only on photos, I like this visual help to imagine it properly as stained glass is something I am well acquainted with. The reference would have been easier to pick up if the name had been spelled normally, with a capital L.
