winter rain one flowered umbrella at the funeral
Carol Raisfeld jan2003 (1,6,11) = 26
People anticipated the rain, and they took their umbrellas (black ones, of course) with them. Still someone who was, perhaps, too young or/and who hardly knew the deceased (or did not know him/her at all), took the only umbrella he/she had, or, probably, didf not even think about the color. One flowered umbrella among all the black ones is quite noticeable. It may also mean that someone was even glad that the person died. It may also mean that there is some other side of life that's rather cheerful. That umbrella might even have looked like a flower growing close the black dirt of the dug out soil.

This one is intriguing, it seems thoughtless since a funeral should be
all in black. It is very human to notice this flowered umbrella. Has
natural grief caused a woman to overlook convention and with the
necessity of common rainy weather brought her only [inappropriate]
umbrella, or does she flaunt her widowed status? It has a jaunty "life
goes on" attitude that would be talked about later behind hands.
There's a short story or a movie in here.

This onr shows how a simple observation can turn a somber occasion
into something brighter and more hopeful--that life continues even though someone we care about
has passed on.

This is immediately striking visually and leads the thoughts onwards from the sadness of death to the gaiety of flower patterns; one could imagine quite a drama in the contrast between the different types of umbrella at this occasion
