Haiku Comments -- First Annual Kigo

Thirteenth Place -- 3 Points

almost bedtime…
one last walnut shell
ignites the embers

I can feel the warmth around the hearth as the family relaxes after dinner. It's a nice moment when Dad throws that last walnut shell on the embers...and lets the fire die down for the night. Brings back memories...;-)

Carol Raisfeld

The mood in this haiku is simply wonderful. The walnut shell and fire suggests a winter kigo. The spark in this haiku is the 'ember' just before bed. A last 'spark' that lingers before retiring. One can appreciate this haiku on more than one level.
