Democracy is the most powerful ranking tool within the major web search engines. As I write this, a search for the word "haiku" on Google brings up as #3 the Spam Haiku Archive. Why does "real haiku" not fare better with search engines? Because their pages are not "popular". The most important factor in your ranking within search engines is "How many other pages link to your page?" By providing links to pages of "real haiku", you as a webmaster have the means to influence their positioning within search engines. How do you join? -- Its easy! Just provide links from your website to at least five of the websites listed below, and your site will be added to the list. To move UP on the list, provide links to MORE SITES. From time to time, we'll produce reports on how the sites are doing in the major search engines. If you want to share tips with one another, or announce your site to other haiku webmasters, consider joining the Yahoo Group == HaikuWebMasters

Member Sites: These sites have expressed a desire to be part of the Haiku Webmasters Society and you are encouraged to link to them. (Hmmm... kinda short list, eh? -- but it only began March 5, 2003!)
Candidate Sites: These sites provide links to other haiku websites, and are automatic candidates for membership. This is only the BEGINNING! A Google search on the word "haiku" finds 566,000 websites! I know there are HUNDREDS more. But here, YOU vote for the sites YOU like, and you vote by linking.
